Marina Platygeni MSc, MA Clinical Psychologist, Psychotherapist, DBT Therapist

Ships do not sink because of water around them. They sink because of water that gets into them.

When I was a teenager, my own ship started falling apart, and little by little, drop by drop, it started
filling with water. I didn’t realise it at first; I thought it’s just a little water. And then suddenly, before I
knew it, I found myself utterly consumed by it, bow and stern flooding so fast, so forcefully, that after a
while, I even gave up trying to save my ship. I found myself in cold, dark waters, and I remember thinking
there was no point in even trying to swim. I can’t tell you what happened then, what changed, but
something urged me to start shouting for help. Maybe it’s the same something that’s making you seek
help here. Acknowledging and accepting the fact that I was in need of help was the first step I took
towards healing, while the quality of help I received made me realise I wanted to pay that help forward.
This desire to serve as a healing presence, combined with the desire to inflict on others the type of
positive change that was inflicted on me through therapy has led me to become the person and
therapist I am today.

My name is Marina Platygeni, and I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Integrative Psychotherapist
(No. AD: 532440/28-06-21), having completed a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (University of Bristol), a
Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and Mental Health (Swansea University) and a Master’s degree in
Counselling and Psychotherapy (University of East London). I have also completed postgraduate
certificates in Clinical Psychopathology (Aiginiteio University Hospital, A’ Psychiatric Clinic), in the
Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Illness in Adolescence and in the treatment of Borderline Personality
Disorder with Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (National & Kapodistrian University of Athens). I am a
graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a registered member of the Association
of Greek Psychologists. Finally, I am trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (The Linehan Institute:
Behavioral Tech), which is particularly effective for people who find it difficult to manage and regulate
their emotions.

In the past, I have worked as a Clinical Psychologist with Fitcy Health, an online mental health pla°orm
based in the UAE, and as an External Collaborator with uMore, a mental wellbeing tracking app, while I
have also volunteered with mental health charities, such as Bristol Nightline, the Resilience Lab, and
Swansea Mind in the United Kingdom. Today I work privately as a Clinical Psychologist in Anoixi and I am
a partner of the professional team at Roots Wellness Center.

My approach is integrative, incorporating techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, PersonCentered Therapy and Psychodynamic Theory, and it is mostly centered around dialectical thinking, or in
other words, in the ability to view issues from multiple perspectives, and to reconcile seemingly
opposing ideas. My areas of expertise include affective disorders, such as depression and anxiety, stress
management, interpersonal relationship difficulties, and borderline personality disorder. My goal is to
help guide you towards both acceptance and positive change, through in-person or online sessions, both
in English and in Greek.
